Background & Approach
Sam completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland (2004) and a Master of Clinical Psychology (2011) and has since been practicing in government, non-government and the private sector. Sam has extensive experience working within the drug and alcohol sector in a range of settings – outpatient counselling services, residential rehabilitation, opioid treatment programs, needle and syringe programs and private hospital clinics.

Sam has been trained in a number of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, mindfulness, ACT, DBT and Schema Therapy. She is particularly passionate about the use of Compassion Focused Therapy in assisting individuals to understand how negative emotions, views and processes have evolved from our “tricky minds” and to develop our compassionate selves in order to make choices which will allow for more positive experiences and enhance emotional regulation.
